Grise Fiord, Nunavut, CYGZ v1.1
This airport was left out of Flight Simulator 2020, so I added it. Note: Garmin maps don’t seem to go this far north so you won’t see it on your on board display.
Canada’s most northerly community answers to the names Aujuittuq or Grise Fiord. The first is an Inuit name that means “the place that never thaws out” in Inuktitut.
The second comes from Norwegian explorer Otto Sverdrup and means “pig fiord” for the grunting sound that walrus herds make and the fact this spot is tucked between cliffs at the mouth of a gorgeous fiord.
Grise Fiord Airport is located in Grise Fiord, Nunavut, Canada, and is operated by the Government of Nunavut. Approaches best on runway 32 and departures best on 14.. In reality there is a distinct slope. There are times during the year when official night lasts less than 10 minutes.
NOTAM: It’s a circular approach follow the hill and don’t get too high because is’t a short 1600 feet and a rough runway – so keep your nosewheel up and reverse prop may be necessary.
