Functional Funicular Railway “Stoosbahn” v1.0
This is my second design of a cablecar for the MSFS, this time a funicular railway. I chose the new Stoosbahn due to its incredible design. Already the old Greek philosopher Diogenes knew about the versatile use of barrels for living, wine and similar stuff… But he did not suspect what barrels can be used for nowadays. Just have a look to their use in this extraordinary funicular.
Extract from Wikipedia
“The Stoosbahn, also known as the Schwyz–Stoos funicular or “Standseilbahn Schwyz–Stoos”, is a funicular railway in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. It connects the Hintere Schlattli in the municipalities of Muotatal, Morschach, and Schwyz with the village and mountain resort of Stoos. On a length of 1.7 kilometres, it overcomes a height difference of 744 metres. It opened on 15 December 2017 and replaces the older Schwyz-Stoos funicular. The carriages are barrel-shaped and rotate to maintain a level floor surface for passengers. The new line has a maximum gradient of 110% (47.7°) and is the steepest funicular railway in Switzerland and Europe… ”
Of course it was a special challenge to create an animated Stoosbahn for the MSFS. Different tasks had to be solved. The result is quite convincing. The barrels rotate like in reality. Depart and arrival are done with controlled speed reduction. It is funny to follow the wagons along the track and see them cross each other in the middle. You may use the MSFS drone or a heli.
Just load the file ‘umy-ssbstoos’ into your community folder. To find the valley station easily, I have also added a heliport there. After loading the file ‘umy-lssb-heliport’ in the community folder, you can select it in the start menue with ‘LSSB’. To get a correct display of the scene, you need to load also the following addon:
SWITZERLAND 20m DEM – High Resolution Terrain Elevation Data from LIDAR Imaging
Without this you get only the terrible original mesh from MSFS. There will follow an update to the terrain as soon as the next country update of MSFS for Switzerland is available and stable. Comments are most welcome. Have fun!
