Asobo PC-6 Pilatus – Armada Argentina (Wheels) v1.0

In the early 1970s, the Navy acquired a batch of four PC-6s, manufactured by Fairchild-Hiller in the United States.
The first unit arrived in mid-1971, the following at the end of that year and were incorporated into the 2nd Air Naval Squadron for General Purposes and the Air Naval Reconnaissance Squadron. In 1982 they passed to the BAN Comandante Espora.
As soon as it arrived, the first unit registered 4-G-1, was deployed in Antarctica where it arrived on board the icebreaker ARA San Martín. From that moment on, and for several more years, the PC-6s operated in support of the Antarctic campaigns.
On June 30, 1972, a Turbo Porter made a landing on the deck of the aircraft carrier ARA May 25, the air-naval operations with this aircraft continued until 1974.
Today only one unit survives, the 0686 / G-2 in service from the BAN Comandante Espora where it continues with its tasks of parachuting, light transport and aerial photography.

0686 / G-2 (Fairchild-Hiller PC-6B1A-H2), nº / series 2047, made its first flight in December 1971, registered then as N21441, acquired by the Argentine Navy and incorporated into the Naval Air Squadron for General Purposes as 0686/4-G-2 in January 1972, transferred on 11/2/1987 to the Naval Air Exploration Squadron of the Naval Air Squad No. 6, re-registered 0686/6-G-4, in 1986 it became the Naval Air Squadron of Reconnaissance re-registered as 686/4-G-4, passed to the Naval Aviation School in 1996 re-registered as 0686/1-G-2, later transferred to the Naval Airborne Anti-Submarine Squadron as 0686 / G-2, in service .
