Cuno Kraftwerk Herdecke v1.0
The Cuno power plant is a power plant site for electricity and heat generation that has been in operation since 1908 and has been rebuilt several times. The power plant is located in Herdecke on the Ruhr, which is dammed up here to form Harkortsee, and stands out clearly from the wooded Ardeyhang. The 240 m high chimney, often just called Cuno for short, is visible from afar and is seen by motorists on the A1 as Herdeck’s modern landmark. In May 2005, large parts of the power plant were demolished to make room for a gas and steam combined cycle power plant to be built on the same site, which has been in operation since 2007. The Cuno power plant was named after the then mayor of Hagen, Willi Cuno, who co-founded the regional energy company “Elektromark”.
