Notre Dame de la Salette – LFPS
A re-work of the default Notre Dame de la Salette airstrip located in the southern portion of the French Alps, just southwest of Courchevel. The mod contains the re-terraformed airstrip and a touch-up of a small village to the south of the strip.
Installation:
Installation is the same as for most mods, simply extract the folder and place it in the Community folder. The Community folder should be located at: –> AppData –> Local –> Packages –> Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe –> LocalCache –> Packages –> Community
Note:
This is my first scenery so it may not be 100% accurate but I did my best to give this tiny strip the feeling of the real thing. I made this scenery for a cross country trip I am planning to do through the Alps but it turned out well enough that I thought somebody else may enjoy it as well.
Description:
Notre Dame de la Salette (LFPS) is a very small grass strip located in the southern portion of the French Alps. The extremely difficult approach, steep hillside, and roller coaster of a takeoff roll are a great way to put your skills to the test. The airstrip sits just downhill of the Sanctuaire de Notre Dame de la Salette and offers a stunning, uninhibited view of the French Alps.
Procedures:
Landings only occur to the South on runway 19. The safest approach is from the East, following the mountainside around counterclockwise and joining short final only at the last second. Departures are non-standard and do not utilize the runway. Instead, departures are started from the top of the hill and roll either to the West or to the South down the slope. Pilots have to utilize the open area of the hill’s slope in order to gain enough speed for takeoff.
Features (0.1.1):
– Extensive terraforming to the entire hill and airstrip to better replicate real life.
– Removed trees that shouldn’t be there and adjusted the tree height to better match the area surrounding the airstrip
– Adjusted the grass color so the runway is more visible and truer to the real airstrip
– Added the windsock located at the top of the hill
– Re-made the small village downslope of the airstrip
– Changed the runway departure points in the main menu flight planner to match the true, non-standard departure locations.
|___ The points are still named 01 and 19 but this is a limitation of MSFS and can’t be changed. The true departure headings are to the West and to the South.
Future Updates:
One thing that still needs to be done is to add a parking location at the top of the hill for cold starts. The issue is that adding a parking spot also automatically generates ground personnel. There is a way to disable this feature but it is kind of complicated and I will need a lot more time to figure out how it works.
