La Gomera Airport (IATA: GMZ, ICAO: GCGM), located in the south of the island in the municipality of Alajeró, 34 kilometers from the capital (San Sebastián de La Gomera), is the most recently created in the archipelago Canary Islands, being inaugurated in 1999. Aviation on the island of La Gomera began in the 1950s, when the construction of a private airfield called “El Revolcadero” began, which was located in the municipality of Alajeró. This aerodrome had a landing strip (09-27), a hangar and a small shed that served as a control tower and was open for the owner’s private use and as an aerodrome for emergencies and fumigation work.
