Yorkton Saskatchewan CYQV v1.0
Yorkton is located about 100 nm northeast of Regina and 215 nm northwest of Winnipeg. The main runway is 4800 feet and although it does not have PAPI’s, it has some pretty good approach lighting and published RNAV approaches.
It must be the weather systems that travel up from the Montana area that get super-heated over the prairies on their way eastward, because every single time I’ve ever driven through or stayed at Yorkton, there has been afternoon systems moving in that would unleash a hell on earth – violent cold fronts, TC’s, and hail.The last time I was there – about 2 years ago, it was so black in the middle of the afternoon you had to have headlights on to see where you were going.
