Bokeo Intl. Airport v1.0
Bokeo Intl. Airport is a new airport in Ton Pheung, Bokeo province, which is located in neighborhood with the border between Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, often called the “Golden Triangle”, separated by Mekong River. The construction of the airport is not yet completed but flights have been commenced under absence of permanent buildings. As the website of Laos AIP has been closed for a long time, information about this airport is also absent, an arbitrary ICAO ident “VLTP” is assgined temporary. This addon will be updated according to availbility of information and also the progress of permanent buildings.
It is not surprising that the IFR procedures for this airport is absent, and it is quite challenging to land there. The south end of the runway is very close to the border between Laos and Thailand, so you need to avoid flying across Mekong River for Runway 03 approach. On the other hand, the north end of runway is surrounded by hilly terrains, a steep approach is expected for Runway 21.
The airport is constructed by funds from China, while some of the investors are suspected of committing criminal syndicates in Southeast Asia according to US Treasury.
