CYYR-Goose Bay, Happy Valley, Labrador, Canada
CYYR – Goose Bay is a Great Monument in the Airline history. In Decades it has played an important role for Airmen facing the challenge of crossing the wast North Atlantic Ocean, due to the fact that Goose Bay has a favorable Micro clima with milder weather and less fog than stations further south, and pilots tired of waiting for days for a better weather forecast, have often taken the route via Goose Bay to make a safe crossing. Further the airport has been vital, and still are, as a refueling stop and a safe haven.
CYYR consist of a Civil airport – Goose Bay Airport, with status as Airport of entry and Border Control (CBSA), and the CFB Goose Bay. The airport is well equipped with ILS, NDB and large Runways making it a safe place to land.
Even Goose Bay’s importance throug time has been chained together with the challenge of “Crossing the North Atlantic Ocean”. It’s long military record shows the CFB has been used in many global conflicts starting with WW2, the Cold War & the Gulf War, and throug numerous other important operations.
The Airbase is still used by the RCAF, and both USAF, RAF, Luftwaffe, the Italien Airforce and RNAF have had permanent detachment together with other NATO allied and the facilities are still used to train Pilots in the maximum harsh invironment. Hi JensPeter,
Great scenery super thanks for that. I am using it for fuel stops on transatlantic crossings.
Would you be able to update the airport to the new runway numbers 15-33 instead of the old 16-34.
