Danxia Airport, Shaoguan (ZGSG) v1.0
Shaoguan is a city at the north of Guangdong Province, and the airport was a simple airbase initially, with very limited commercial flights in a short period. It is interesting that it has an IATA code but no ICAO code. In 2014, the airport started to be totally rebuilt into a bigger one which could accommodate single aisle jetliners, with complete ground handlings, a modern new terminal with jetways, and ILS for both runway ends (although all the terminal procedures of airports in China is classified as national secrets except those international ones so I know nothing about it). Now the airport upgrade is finished, and will start to operate again before the end of 2021.
An arbitrary tower frequency is filled as there is a formal control tower although the actual frequency is unknown (national secrets, again). Instead of setting up ILS with arbitrary frequencies (no need to explain the reason again), I “designed” two very typical RNAV approaches to the both sides of the runway (I don’t know whether it has one IRL or not), as I don’t have to think about the transition legs. The terrain around the airport is quite hilly but I have no clue on how to “design” the STARs into the airport, it is unsafe to fly below 10000ft without having terrain in sight during descend, especially for arrivals from the west.
There are two Chinese characters at the top of the terminal (which means “Shaoguan” in Chinese) , it is added as decals but I found that it couldn’t be seen from below. I may need to make them as meshes in future releases.
