KLOT – Lewis University Airport – Romeoville, IL USA v1.0
KLOT – Lewis University Airport – Romeoville, IL USA
Lewis University Airport is a small general aviation airport in the growing town of Romeoville, IL. Located about thirty-five minutes southwest of downtown Chicago, LOT is an ideal airport for business jets and privately owned aircraft. It’s two runways, 27-9 and 20-2 provide plenty of distance to operate most modern commercial aircraft. If you have not gathered from the name, this airport is also part of a nationally recognized university. Students at Lewis study anything from Nursing to Computer Science to, of course, Flight Management. Lewis is home to a prestigious flight school and operates a sizeable fleet of training aircraft comprised mainly of Cessna 172s. Most days, flight students are taking to the skies either doing laps in the pattern or going out to one of three designated practice areas. LOT is also located near the Joliet Speedway. Every summer NASCAR teams utilize the airport. The event draws so many corporate aircraft that a temporary control tower is established to ensure safe operations. As the traffic at LOT increases, the demand for a control tower has increased and the Port District that operates the airport hopes to fund the construction of a permanent tower in the near future. Until then, this airport is uncontrolled. Those wishing to practice at a controlled airport can take the short flight over to KARR (Aurora Municipal) or KDPA (DuPage). The University portion of the airport is located on the west side. Aviation Maintenance is also a popular field of study. At one point a B737-200 painted in Lewis University colors was stationed outside the large maintenance hangar. Recently, that B737-200 has been replaced by a retired American Airlines MD80. Unfortunately, neither the B737-200 or MD80 are yet available for MSFS2020 so the A320 NEO has been added in the MD80s place.
I decided to remaster the default airport after seeing how poorly it is depicted by the default airport. The airport holds a special place in my love for aviation as it is where I completed my private pilot training. I also hold an Aviation Management degree from Lewis. It only seemed fitting that I remake this airport to bring it closer to the real thing. Hopefully, current flight students will see this and utilize it for more accuracy. As a side note, if you are familiar with this airport and notice inaccuracies in signage, please feel free to message or comment. I did my best to label taxiway signs as logically as I could using satellite imagery.
There are no custom buildings or textures. This is a remastered airport using only objects/textures from the SDK. Just add the “lewisedit” folder to your MSFS Community folder.
