Hilo is one of the five major airports serving the Hawaiian Islands ( Hawaii is the 50. state in USA) and one of the two airports
on main Hawaii Island. Hilo had its booming days in the seventies when tourism exploded, with major carriers linking the airport to destignations on the the US west coast, but also to airports like Newark and other eastcoast stations, and the airport were expanded to accomodate the largest airliners. All gates can dock airplanes of B747 size.
Today Hilo live a quiert life, and besides the passenger traffic, USAF use the airport for training and transitting military traffic with planes like the C-5 Galaxy,C-17 Globemaster and F-22 Raptor, and the airport have a new modern Cargo Terminal.
