In 1998 Papyrus Design Group launched a new computer racing simulator. Inspired by the 1966 film Grand Prix, the developers chose to base the game on the 1967 Formula 1 Grand Prix season because during that period tracks were narrow and lined with trees, houses, and other elements that in a video game can serve as backgrounds to enhance the sensation of speed. In addition, the more primitive suspension of cars of the time meant that the car physics could be more visually dramatic.
However, the amount of time that has passed since the 1967 Grand Prix season meant that some of the tracks the designers wanted to recreate no longer existed in their original form. The team visited town halls to get blueprints for defunct tracks.
Over the years developers have added cars and tracks to the original game giving users a magnificent variety of racing opportunity on tracks that have either changed out of recognition due to modern safety standards or have simply ceased to be used.
This 1300 mile (2100 km) flight in 16 legs visits many of the tracks from the original 1998 sim in the northern part of Europe and adds many famous (and some largely forgotten) circuits. We shall fly through France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. As a bonus we shall also be flying over the parts of Europe which Asobo has recently improved with their world update.
Many thanks to BuffyGC for ‘BushTripInjector’ without which I could not have created this project and Picnic for the original idea.
There is also third party software that will enhance your flying experience during this flight and more details of this are included in the ‘Read Me’ file included within the download.
Enjoy the flight!
