Wales, England, Scotland: Caernarfon to Stornoway v1.0
This twelve-leg bushtrip takes you through northern Wales, north-western England, and western Scotland in the UK. The first third of the trip sees us navigating valleys through mountain regions, while the last third is spent island-hopping through Scotland’s Hebridean Islands.
We depart from Caernarfon, Wales for some dramatic low-level valley flying through the Snowdonian mountains on your way across Wales to Liverpool, home of The Beetles. From there, we follow England’s west coast up to Walney Island, gateway to the Lake District National Park. Skimming the surface of the lakes, we wind our way along the Lake District’s valleys up to Carlisle on the English-Scotish border. Now we hop from island to island through Scotland’s rugged and incredibly varied Hebrides. Take in the picturesque valleys of Mull, the pitted alien landscape of Benbacula, the rugged beauty of Harris, and stop via Barra, the only airport in the world where scheduled flights use the beach as a runway. Our final destination is Stornoway, capital of the outer Hebrides and situated “at the edge of the world”.
