Cergy – Pont Rouge Axe Majeur v1.0
The Major Axis is a monumental work located in Cergy1, in the Val-d’Oise department, in France. It is part of a loop of the Oise, in the center of the new town of Cergy-Pontoise. The work is designed by Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan from 1980, its first elements appearing in the 1980s.
Its production experienced a long period of depression until the middle of the 2000s when the stations on the edge of the Oise were built. Unfinished compared to the various plans created, the Axis is made up of twelve stations over a length of 3.2 kilometers, including a leaning tower, a set of twelve columns, a footbridge, an island or even a laser beam that flies over the course. . It begins in the district to which it gave its name, Ax Majeur – Horloge (formerly Saint-Christophe) and ends at the border with Neuville-sur-Oise, after having flown over the artificial ponds of Cergy-Neuville.
Symbol of the new city, it is also one of the important works of Dani Karavan, who accompanied its construction for more than thirty years. It is also the location for filming, several rap clips, and hosts a fashion show in 2021.
