Functional Cable Car ‘Hoher Kasten’ Switzerland v1.0
Functional Cable Car “Hoher Kasten” Switzerland
This is AFAIK the first functional mountain cable car in our new virtual world. With this project I could combine my two favorite hobbys: aviation and cablecars/ropeways. For installation just load ‘lsbhoherkasten’ into your community folder. This will also place a POI for the mountain ‘Hoher Kasten’ itself.
The original plant is situated in the beautiful area of Appenzell in the eastern corner of Switzerland. The cable car starts from Bruelisau (934m ASL) and climbs up to the mountain ‘Hoher Kasten’ (1791m). It is about 2.7 km long and operates with two cabins for 50 persons each. Two pilons in the lower part (35 and 55m high) provide distance to the terrain.
The model simulates a continuous operation, with about 1 min stays in the end stations. Departure and arrival are realised with realistic speed reductions. The wheel groups follow the rope (more or less), even at the pylons. Just follow the cabins with a helicopter or the MSFS drone to see the details.
To get there you may start at the near, existing airport LSZR Altenrhein, best with a helicopter or the drone. To ease observations, I have also created a virtual heliport near the valley station. Just select it with “LSBR Bruelisau” in the start menu of MSFS after you have loaded the ‘lsbrheliport’ into your community folder.
Restrictions:
– The ropes are not bended by cabin weight. Could be interesting to study and realise such a complex animation.
– Transitions between terrain and buildings are not yet optimal.
– The mountain station is only visible with the original MSFS mesh. I will adjust it as soon as MSFS gets a more precise mesh for Switzerland.
I hope, you enjoy my experiment. Please comment and let me know, if there should be important corrections. If there is enough interest, I will probably realise other similar projects.
