Google/Orange – Cable Dunant v1.0
In 2020, Google, in partnership with Orange, is deploying the Dunant cable planned for the summer of 2020. The name is a tribute to Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross. This submarine cable will have a transmission speed of 300 terabits/second and links Virginia Beach, on the east coast of the United States, to Saint Hilaire de Riez, in France, a town near Les Sables d’Olonne, over a distance of 6,600 km. Together with Marea and Curie, this installation of the Dunant cable is significant of the place taken by the Gafams on submarine cable networks at the beginning of the 21st century.
