Pontoise Downtown v1.0
Pontoise is a French commune located in the Île-de-France region, on the right bank of the Oise, about twenty-five kilometers north-west of Paris.
Capital of the department of Val-d’Oise, it hosts a sub-prefecture, the prefecture not located in the capital, but in the neighboring town of Cergy, since the creation of the new town of Cergy-Pontoise, which is a unique case in mainland France.The city shelters one of the most important judicial cities of the country and is the seat of the diocese of Pontoise, detached from that of Versailles in 1966. Its inhabitants are called the Pontoisiens.Rich with more than two thousand years of history, historical capital of French Vexin and major city of the kingdom in the Middle Ages, it was made famous in Impressionist art following the long stay of Camille Pissarro, who represented it in many works, shown in the largest museums in the world. Thanks to its rich heritage, Pontoise obtained the City of Art and History label in 2006.
