Vilanova de Arousa, is located in the heart of the Arousa estuary. It belongs to the Salnés region. The first perception that we have in Vilanova de Arousa is that it belongs to the estuary that bears its name, offering us its wonderful landscape, and its beaches, which are numerous. The town has produced undeniable geniuses such as Ramón María del Valle Inclán and the brothers Julio Y Francisco Camba The most outstanding monuments include the Church of Santa María de Caleiro, both for its artistic and historical interest. It is a Romanesque style temple that preserves part of the original Romanesque church from the 12th century, although its original structure has been transformed over time. The church has other architectural elements from the 16th century and includes a 16th century chapel called the Capilla del Cristo de los Crespol, created by Pedro Otero, with a rectangular plan and starry vault. The Pazo de Rúa Nova, Declared a Historic Artistic Monument and linked to the road and work of Valle-Inclán, the pazo is dated in the 16th century. It has four differentiated bodies joined together. Of the ensemble, with the ameado door and the tower with solaina stand out, an 18th century chapel dedicated to San Miguel and a body joined with two shields. The manor house of D. Ramón María del Valle Inclán, this pazo was built in the 16th century on an old fortress. The Torres de Cálogo are the remains of the old Cálogo monastery, which is known to have existed in the 9th century. According to tradition, it was used to signal ships. To the seafaring Vilanova we must add the inner Vilanova, a territory that offers an interesting diversity of landscape and possibilities for leisure. The Umia River is the natural axis to get closer to the rural landscape, which is characterized by the presence of extensive rural areas dedicated to garden crops and vineyards, the latter in full expansion. The “Wine Route” of the denomination of origin “Rías Baixas” has its passage through Vilanova de Arousa.
